Na našem pražském velvyslanectví jsme hrdí na to, jak jsme díky intenzivní spolupráci s českými partnery dosáhli za poslední čtyři roky více než stoprocentního nárůstu bilaterálního obchodu mezi ČR a USA. Je to třikrát více, než je průměr na ostatních amerických ambasádách v dalších státech EU za stejné období. Jeden z důvodů tohoto úspěchu jsou naše každoroční setkání, kde projednáváme strategii obchodních vztahů. Právě teď jsem ve Washingtonu pomáhal odstartovat třetí kolo těchto jednání, která nazýváme Americko-český ekonomický a obchodní dialog. Na první fotografii jsem společně s Vladimírem Bartlem z českého ministerstva průmyslu a obchodu, Matthewem Murrayem z Ministerstva obchodu USA a českým velvyslancem v USA Petrem Gandalovičem.
Během mé cesty jsem o pevných česko-amerických vazbách mluvil s více než desítkou členů Kongresu, včetně senátora a předsedy podvýboru pro evropské záležitosti Chrisa Murphyho a Jany Schakowské, spolupředsedkyně české „frakce“ v Kongresu. Senátor Murphy měl jako vždy bystré postřehy a Schakowsky jde do každé práce s obrovskou energií a zkušenostmi. Na další fotce nás vidíte společně. S dalším spolupředsedou Joem Bartonem udržuje frakci v chodu, čímž přispívá k dalšímu rozvíjení česko-amerických vztahů.
Také jsem navštívil Bílý dům, kde jsem na konferenci hovořil o právech gayů a leseb. Při té příležitosti jsme představil mou přítelkyni a hlavního řečníka akce, poradkyni pro národní bezpečnost Susan Ricovou. Bylo to hezké uznání skvělé práce, kterou americká ambasáda v Praze v této oblasti společně s českými partnery odvedla.
Nakonec jsme s mou ženou Lindsey měli tu čest setkat se s izraelským prezidentem Šimonem Peresem a zúčastnit se na izraelském velvyslanectví večeře na jeho počest. Tento pozoruhodný státník slouží svému státu od jeho založení v roce 1948 a mimo jiné zažil devět amerických prezidentů. Bylo pro mě velkým potěšením s ním (hebrejsky!) mluvit o tom, jak Spojené státy a Česká republika společně s Izraelem podporují mír na Blízkém východě.
Greetings from the US – Czech economic and commercial dialogue, and more!
All of us at embassy Prague are very proud of the fact that by working hard with our Czech partners we have achieved an increase of over 100% in bilateral trade between our two countries over the past four years. That is more than three times the average for US embassies in the EU during that period. One of the ways we have supported that increase is by meeting annually to take a strategic approach to trade. I was just in DC to help kick off the third annual session, which we call the US-Czech economic and commercial dialogue. In the first picture I am with Vladimir Bartl of the Czech Ministry of Commerce, Matthew Murray of the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Czech Ambassador to the U.S. Petr Gandalovic.
On this trip, I also spoke about our strong US- Czech ties with more than 10 members of Congress, including Sen Chris Murphy, the Chair of the Subcommittee on European Affairs, as well as the co-chair of the Congressional Czech Caucus, Rep. Jan Schakowsky. Senator Murphy was as insightful as ever, and Rep. Schakowsky brings powerful experience and energy to everything she does. In the secod picture, here we are together. Working with co-chair Rep. Joe Barton, she is reviving this important caucus that promotes our bilateral relationship.
I also visited the White House, speaking at the White House Forum on Global LGBT Human Rights. I was asked to address the gathering, introducing my friend, national security advisor Susan Rice, the keynote speaker. That was a nice recognition of the outstanding work that embassy Prague has done in supporting the efforts of Czech leaders and the Czech people on these issues.
Finally, Lindsay and I had the privilege to meet Israeli Pres. Shimon Peres and attend a dinner at the Israeli Embassy in his honor. This remarkable statesman has served the State of Israel throughout its entire history, since its founding in 1948. He has worked with nine US presidents. What a pleasure it was to chat with him (in Hebrew!) about how the United States and the Czech Republic are working together with Israel to promote peace in the Middle East.
