Jsem si jistý, že každý z vás, kdo čtete tento blog, ví, kde byl 11. září 2001. Příběhy statečnosti a výjevy z této tragédie se staly nesmazatelnou součástí kolektivní paměti Spojených států i zbytku světa.
Každý rok na výročí tohoto hrozného dne vzpomínáme na oběti útoků i na tisíce těch, kteří v následujících letech položili své životy během služby své vlasti. Na tragédii 11. září vzpomínají také přátelé Ameriky. Dnes budu Spojené státy reprezentovat na vzpomínkovém koncertě, který se koná ve Španělském sále Pražského hradu. Brněnská filharmonie zahraje pod taktovkou Američana Stevena Lipsitta mimo jiné Mozartovo, Verdiho a Dvořákovo rekviem.
Velvyslanectví USA v České republice uctilo oběti teroristických útoků z 11. září minutou ticha ve 14:46 středoevropského času, tedy přesně v moment, kdy před dvanácti lety začal první útok nárazem letadla do severní běže Světového obchodního centra. Ve svém projevu zaměstancům ministerstva zahraničí vzpomněl ministr John Kerry rodiny obětí i ty, kteří přišli o život během své služby vlasti. Sdílím s ministrem jeho pocity. Jako velvyslanec v České republice nikdy nezapomenu na dluh, který máme vůči těm, kteří 11. září zemřeli, i vůči Američanům a jejich spojencům, jež položili své životy při obraně naší sdílené bezpečnosti v následujícíh letech, a vůči jejich rodinám a blízkým. Oni všichni jsou hrdinové, a my na ně nikdy nepřestaneme myslet.

We honor heroes and victims of 9/11
I’m certain that everyone who is reading this blog can recall where they were on September 11, 2001. The stories of bravery and the images of the attacks are an indelible part of the collective memory of the United States and the world.
Every year, on the anniversary of that terrible day, we reflect on the loss of life, and on the thousands of our fellow citizens who have given their lives in the service of our country in the years since. Friends of America also commemorate the tragedy. Tonight, I will represent the United States at a memorial concert to be held in the Spanish Hall of the Prague Castle. Conducted by the American Steven Lipsitt, the Brno Philharmonic will perform requiems by Mozart, Verdi, and Dvorak, among others, to honor the innocent victims who perished on September 11.
The U.S. Embassy in the Czech Republic observed a moment of silence at 2:46 PM today, in remembrance of the first of the four infamous attacks, which occurred at 8:46 AM, Eastern Standard Time, when an aircraft struck the World Trade Center’s North Tower. In his address to the State Department workforce, Secretary Kerry urged us to remember the families of the victims, while reminding us that we can honor those who lost their lives through continuous service to our country. I share the Secretary’s sentiments. As Ambassador to the Czech Republic, I never lose sight of the debt we owe to those who died on September 11; to the Americans and our allies who died in the defense of our shared security in the years thereafter; and to their families and loved ones. They are heroes all, and we shall never forget them.
